• Meet: 8:00am at Mt. Baldy trailhead
• Duration: 6+ hours; expect an all-day hike
• Distance: ~10 miles round trip
• Elevation gain: ~3,900 ft
• Summit elevation: 10,068 ft
Join the Caltech Alpine Club for a summit hike to Mt. Baldy, the highest peak in the San Gabriel Mountains! With little snow from the recent storm and warmer weather ahead, this is a great opportunity to summit Baldy before winter sets in.
The route passes San Antonio Falls and the Mt. Baldy ski hut before climbing along the Baldy Bowl to the summit. We'll return via Devil's Backbone, a scenic but exposed ridgeline with sweeping views of the surrounding mountains.

Bring at least 3 L of water, lunch and snacks, sun protection, sturdy hiking shoes, trekking poles, and warm layers for temperatures around 35–50°F (2–10°C). This is a strenuous hike with steep, loose, and exposed sections. Please come prepared for a full day on the trail.
Drivers are especially encouraged to sign up and offer rides through the carpool spreadsheet, as transportation capacity may be limited.
